Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship 2023 by Imperial College London
About Imperial College London
The Great Exhibition of 1851, which Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband, oversaw in neighbouring Hyde Park, is whence Imperial College gets its name. The show introduced the globe to British business, technology, and science. It was a huge success, and in 1881, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Geological Museum were all inaugurated in the South Kensington neighbourhood using the exhibition’s proceeds.
About the Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship.
The scholarship is funded by an endowed donation from the late Professor Shawki Saad. He was a professor of civil engineering at Khartoum University in Sudan, and will be given to students joining the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Four students will be supported by the programme, which will pay for their tuition in full as well as their stipend and travel expenses. The new scholarship programme expands on an earlier one for Sudanese students.
A student prize for sustainability-related research in sub-Saharan Africa is also announced along with the new scholarship. The student award and scholarship will support College initiatives to address systemic worldwide engineering and sustainability concerns.
